Trans Day of Remembrance Vigil

Each year on 20 November, communities around the world gather for Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) – a time for solidarity, reflection and remembrance. This event honours transgender, gender diverse and non-binary lives lost to anti-trans violence and discrimination, holding their memory close and carrying their love forward. Presented by Transgender Victoria in partnership with City of Yarra, this commemorative event offers a gentle, welcoming space suitable for all ages, including children. All are invited to join this important act of remembrance and resilience. Doors open at 5:30 PM at Fitzroy Town Hall, with speakers and performances commencing at 5:45 PM. Entry remains open throughout the event, so attendees are welcome to arrive at their convenience. A social connection hour, including light refreshments and community interaction, will take place from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Registration is encouraged but not compulsory. This vigil provides an opportunity to remember and share stories of loved ones lost, offering mutual support through shared grief. Individuals wishing to share a few words, a eulogy, a poem, a song, or other expressions are encouraged to register their interest by emailing events@tgv.org.au by 30 October. Support services are available for those who may find this day emotionally challenging. QLife, Rainbow Door, Suicide Line Victoria, and Lifeline offer free, confidential support.
