Southern HiBearnation
Southern HiBearnation brings a range of beefy, burly men from around Australia and the world to Melbourne for a week of furry fun. This popular off-season bear gathering in the Southern Hemisphere promises an exciting program for attendees. The event typically spans seven days in early June each year. Key highlights of the event include the Mr Australasia Bear Competition, along with various social gatherings. Expect pool and sauna parties, the UnderBEAR party, a Retro Dance Party, Bear Stomp, a BBQ lunch, Bear Soup, and BEARaoke sessions. The Mr Australasia Bear Competition is a central part of the week, where contestants are quizzed in a fun, friendly and relaxed environment. They are asked about their connection to the 'Bear' identity, judged on community interaction and their responses. The UnderBEAR party is another popular event, inviting attendees to strip down to their underwear and dance through the night, celebrating all forms of bears. While the full day-by-day schedule for the 2027 edition is awaiting release, the event kicks off with a meet and greet opening party. Most events are typically held at The Laird, located in Abbotsford, which is adjacent to Fitzroy, a known hub for Melbourne's alternative queer scene. Visitors can plan their stay in Melbourne's Central Business District or explore city-fringe districts like South Yarra, Collingwood, Fitzroy, and St Kilda for their accommodation needs.
