Queer Body Mapping: Jeremy Smith
In this intimate workshop, participants will create a life-sized body map by tracing their outline onto large paper and filling it with colour, text, and imagery. Guided prompts will explore identity, memory, desire, and lived experience, inviting reflection on how queer histories and emotions are held within the body. The session is limited to 10 participants and will be hosted by Qtopia’s Assistant Curator, Ambassador, and PhD candidate artist, Jeremy Smith. Jeremy W. Smith is a Sydney-based queer artist, curator, and researcher. His practice combines drawing, cartography, and queer historiography to illuminate hidden narratives and reimagine how identity is mapped. He is currently completing a PhD in Fine Arts at UNSW Art & Design with a research project focused on 'Drawing Queer Counter-Cartography'. Smith is also an inaugural curator at Qtopia Sydney, Australia’s first LGBTQIA+ museum, and a founding member and curator at DrawSpace, Sydney’s first gallery dedicated to drawing. His curatorial practice extends to exhibitions such as 'Queer Drawing' and 'We’re Here, We’re Queer'.
