NONGKRONG 2026: Soda Gembira Eora (Sydney)

For the first time and for one night only, Nongkrong’s club night, Soda Gembira, is throwing it down at the beloved Red Rattler Theatre this August for its Eora/Sydney takeover. A nod to the classic Indonesian pink drink, we’re serving the same fizzy, equal parts playful and a little nakal energy to the dance floor – a love letter to self-expression and the ass-shaking club angels. With dancers and DJs taking over, expect a journey through Indonesia’s underrepresented club sounds from dangdut, koplo, funkot, jedag jedug to breakbeat. Free entry is offered for First Nations and Trans folks; just notify hello@nongkrong.com.au. This event takes place on the stolen land of the Gadigal and Wangal people. Nasi Kuning mealboxes from Lawan Catering will be available for pre-order and on the night, with Halal beef rendang and vegan/GF tempeh options. The Red Rattler Theatre offers accessible entry and bathrooms, with the dance floor on one level and seating around the edges. No strobe lighting or haze will be used. Free masks and foam earplugs will be available at the door. This is a communal space that centres the safety, joy, and wellbeing of First Nations, POC, Queer, and Trans communities. Antisocial, discriminatory, or harmful behaviour will not be tolerated.
