I Thought I Was in Bali

I Thought I Was in Bali is an immersive Indonesian open house organised by the Indonesian Queer Collective (IQC), a registered charity dedicated to advancing Indonesian queer arts and cultural visibility. The event is designed as a cultural curiosity playground, inviting audiences to move beyond Bali stereotypes and experience the humour, flavour, and camp of Indonesia’s vibrant queer and multicultural community. Your ticket includes a tasting of `jajanan pasar`, Indonesia’s traditional sweet and savoury desserts and snacks, along with Indonesian coffee such as Kopi Toraja. As guests enjoy their snacks and drinks, the interactive segment "Ask Drunk Indonesian" allows for questions on travel tips and cultural curiosities. Drag performances by IQC artists will keep the afternoon lively, leading into a celebratory moment when the DJ drops Indobounce beats. Guests can explore a costume library filled with `selendang`, headpieces, and Indonesian-themed props before joining a community dance focused on cultural immersion and queer party energy. This Sunday afternoon promises laughter, discovery, movement, and connection. It caters to those newly curious about Indonesia, those deeply connected to its arts and cultures, or anyone simply missing its people, flavours, and joyful chaos.
