FABLE
FABLE delves into Irish storytelling and queer identities, exploring the intersections of folklore, fairytales, ritual, gender fluidity, drag and sexuality through dance, physical theatre, masks, installation art, and music. The work immerses itself in Ireland's fairytales to juxtapose whimsy with grit, lightness with darkness, and escapism with activism. It plays with identity and self-expression in both mythological and queer contexts, embracing fluidity between and around categorical binaries. The production recognises queer existence in historical storytelling, pre-colonial structures, and contemporary society. FABLE is a multifaceted dance theatre work, an interactive installation, an Irish Trad music session, and a community gathering space. Attendees are invited to enjoy a drink, make a wish on the wishing tree, and step through a gateway into the world of fairies. The event is directed, choreographed, and performed by Cora Hughes, a professional contemporary dancer, choreographer, teacher, event organiser, producer, and visual artist. Cora has previously performed with Lucy Guerin Inc., Helen Herbertson Projects, and Yumi Umiumare. The production team also includes Freya Humphery (Producer), Emily Eather (Performance and Choreography Assistance), Mish (Sound), and Djuno Fisher (Masks).
