Dance Therapy

Dance Therapy is a fun, beginner-friendly dance class designed to help participants reset after work, lift their mood, and feel more energised. This early-evening experience combines music, guided movement, and social connection in a welcoming LGBTQ+ inclusive environment. Held in a real nightclub space Upstairs at Universal Sydney, the classes offer a weekly mental health reset with pop music and community. There is no alcohol, no mirrors, and no pressure to perform, focusing instead on movement, confidence-building, and social connection. Most participants attend solo and often form lasting friendships. Each session includes a grounding welcome, a gentle warm-up, a confidence-building strut, and easy, step-by-step dance routines to iconic pop artists. Time is also allocated for socialising and connecting under nightclub lighting. No prior dance experience or high fitness levels are required, and participants are encouraged to move at their own pace. Dance Therapy is ideal for LGBTQ+ adults and allies (18+ venue requirement), human-level beginners, and non-dancers. It suits anyone seeking a structured weekly mood boost or fun social connection without the pressures of traditional nightlife. Classes take place in an upstairs nightclub space with music and lighting effects, with breaks, earplugs, and modifications supported. Classes are held on Thursdays at 6:30 pm at Universal Sydney, located at 85–91 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, in the heart of Sydney’s queer precinct. Comfortable activewear and sneakers are recommended. Places are limited to maintain a supportive group atmosphere, and booking in advance is strongly recommended as most weeks reach capacity.
