Cocky Horror: Brisbane’s Drag Kings Take Over The Frankenstein Place
Brisbane’s Kings of Kaos are taking control of the laboratory in 'Cocky Horror', a parody cabaret floor show that celebrates the cult phenomenon of 'The Rocky Horror Show'. This production reimagines the classic through drag, sideshow, burlesque, live vocals, and multimedia projection, offering a distinctly contemporary Meanjin makeover. This sapphic-heavy, queer, trans, and disability-led cabaret pays tribute to generations of queer audiences who found community in chaotic and camp revelries. It offers an irreverent celebration of the freedom, sexuality, and queer possibility inspired by Tim Curry's original performance as Dr Frank-N-Furter, providing a perfect opportunity to remember his incredible legacy. The troupe, Kings of Kaos, have appeared at various events and venues across Brisbane and South East Queensland, including Brisbane Pride and Melt. Expect extravagant costumes, cult performance references, and high-energy choreography that draws the audience directly into the chaotic night at the Frankenstein place. The show promises a rowdy collision of cult cinema, cabaret, and unapologetic queer desire, whether you know every word of the 'Time Warp' or are new to the experience. It includes specific warnings for audience interaction, nudity, depicted violence, haze/smoke effects, sexual references, coarse language, blood, sparks, and flashing lights. A relaxed performance on 6 November will have light and smoke effects removed.
